The dry, mild climate of Heathcote provides ideal conditions for growing shiraz. The fruit for this wine comes from our family vineyard, planted in 1999 on the fmous strip of 500 million year old cambrian soil that defines the heart of the region.
The vineyard was certified organic in 2021.
Winemaker Notes
Our inaugural Fort Shiraz is crafted from organically grown grapes sourced from our family vineyard in Heathcote, planted in 1999 on ancient 500-million-year-old Cambrian soils. The region’s dry, mild climate allows the fruit to develop remarkable concentration, and after fermentation, the wine is carefully fortified with a selected brandy spirit to enhance its richness and aging potential, promising an evolution of complexity over 10+ years in the cellar.
Tasting Notes
This wine offers rich aromas of dark berries and plum, with the brandy spirit adding warmth and complexity. The palate is full-bodied and smooth, showcasing ripe fruit flavors balanced by velvety tannins. A long, intense finish leaves lingering notes of dark fruit and spice.
