OUR New Vineyard in the Coal River Valley
Campania, Tasmania
In late 2022, the Kirby family purchased a 12 hectare property in Campania, Tasmania - deep in the heart of the Coal River Valley.
The Kirby family along with general manager and winemaker Tom Carson had long-held a desire to expand the winery’s pinot noir footprint. Tom’s search for the right vineyard soon led him to Tasmania, an incredibly exciting region for pinot noir.
The Coal River Valley is renowned for producing wonderfully deep and flavourful wines and the team has embraced the opportunity to discover the individual character of this new site and the beautiful parcels of fruit it has produced in 2023 and 2024.
Five hectares of vineyard was established in 2017, 80% of which was pinot noir and 20% chardonnay. A further four hectares was planted in 2023.
The inaugural release of our single vineyard chardonnay and pinot noir from the Coal River Valley will be the 2023 vintage, and was launched in spring 2024. The wine has been bottled in strictly limited quantities, under its own distinct ‘Coal River Valley’ label within the Yabby Lake stable of wines.
