2008 Cooralook Shiraz
The fruit for this wine was sourced from vineyards within the Heathcote Region. The 2008 growing season experienced a dryer than normal winter and spring. The warm spring, combined with timely early rain, saw excellent flowering and eventual fruit set. These ideal growing conditions meant that shoot growth was more vigorous than normal. Rain at pre-bunch closure and veraison set the vines up nicely for ripening. With a cooler than average February, vine stress was kept to a minimum and ultimately allowed the fruit to be picked at night in excellent conditions. Once again, fruit of excellent colour, flavour and natural acid was produced.
Deep ruby in colour this wine exhibits a complex array of raspberry, dark berry and plum fruit characters with hints of spice and tobacco. The palate is rich in fruit and intensity, but retains its elegance through its wonderful texture.
The 2008 Cooralook Shiraz embodies the affinity between the Heathcote region and the shiraz grape. The palate is loaded with dark fruited intense Shiraz flavours and illustrates why this wine is so special. Lush ripe sweet berries are followed by subtle nuances of spice and toasted oak.
