Yabby Lake awarded Best Pinot Noir at Victorian Wines Show

Yabby Lake has consolidated its position as one of Victoria’s leading pinot noir producers bringing home the Best Pinot Noir trophy for the 2008 Yabby Lake Pinot Noir at the Victorian Wines Show.

The Yabby Lake 2007 Pinot Noir was awarded the top gold medal in the 2007 and older Pinot Noir class and the 2008 Yabby Lake Pinot Noir was awarded the top gold in the 2008 Pinot Noir class. In fact the taste off for the trophy was between the 2007 and 2008 Yabby Lake Pinot Noir.

Judges noted, “The top wines are excellent examples of the variety. Power isn’t everything as evident by the balanced and refined top award wine.”

Yabby Lake chief winemaker and general manager Tom Carson said, “We are intent on crafting wines with a genuine sense of identity and it’s a credit to our team, and to this philosophy, that we have been able to produce wines worthy of this award.” “The 2008 and 2007 wines are an excellent expression of our special site in Moorooduc on the Mornington Peninsula. “Positioned on a north-facing slope, the site captures maximum daily sunshine, but importantly is refreshed by nightly cool sea breezes – perfect conditions for growing high quality chardonnay and pinot noir,” Tom said.

Yabby Lake Pinot Noir is made with a blend of MV6, Pommard and 115 Clones. MV6 and Pommard are chosen for their structure and complexity whilst 115 is selected for the layers of elegance it imparts on the final blend. Each clone is planted on a specific soil type and aspect at the Yabby Lake Vineyard. The subtle variation of each block and its selected clone adds great depth of character and personality to the wines.
